Who’s in Your Inner Circle? Why the Right People Determine the Ceiling of Your Growth
Jun 24, 2025
Let me ask you a question I don’t think enough leaders stop to answer:
Who’s in your inner circle?
Not your team. Not your staff. I mean your inner circle—the small group of people who challenge you, protect you, and push you beyond what you thought was possible.
High performers—those who outpace their peers year after year—don’t achieve that level of sustained success alone. They build an inner circle. They nurture it. And most importantly, they lean into it.
I recently listened to a Navy SEAL talk about the three types of people you must have in your life:
-
The Confidant – The person who will never repeat what you say. You could share your biggest fears, failures, or ambitions, and they’d hold it tight.
-
The Truth Teller – The one who doesn’t sugarcoat. They’re not impressed by your titles or your income—they’ll tell you when you’re playing small or drifting off course.
-
The Ride-or-Die – This is the person who shows up without needing context. If you call, they’re there. No questions. No explanation needed.
