Are You Showing Up, or Just Clocking In? The Truth About Moving the Needle Every Day
Mar 12, 2025
If I told you that you don’t have to show up to work every day, what would you think? Would you assume I meant you could take more time off? Call in when you don’t feel like it? Take a half-effort approach to your responsibilities?
Not even close.
I absolutely believe you need to be physically present every day you're scheduled to work. But the real question is—are you mentally present? Are you bringing your A+ game every single day? Because if you're just going through the motions, you might as well not be there at all.
The Illusion of Success
One of the biggest traps people fall into is comparing their daily grind to someone else’s highlight reel. Scroll through social media, and you’ll see nothing but polished victories—big wins, breakthrough moments, record-setting achievements. What you don’t see are the off days, the self-doubt, the bad moods, or the times when they just didn’t feel like doing the work.
Success is never a straight line. It’s a messy, scribbled, unpredictable path. But here’s the secret: even the most successful people in the world have bad days. They just don’t let those bad days stop them.
Small Wins Are Still Wins
Let me pull back the curtain a bit. As I’m writing this, I have a terrible cold. Three days in, and I feel like I’ve been run over by a truck. But here I am, moving the needle. Why? Because even when life knocks you for a loop, you still have an opportunity to make some kind of progress.
On days like this, maybe I won’t be at 100%. But I can still write this blog. I can still move the business forward in some way.
And that’s the key: small wins still count. Even on your worst days, you can do something productive.
-
If you’re overwhelmed, prioritize and plan for tomorrow.
-
If your schedule falls apart, use that time wisely—catch up on calls, train your team, clean up your systems.
-
If you feel stuck, knock out small, meaningful tasks that set you up for success later.
The point is, there is always something you can do to move forward. And those little steps, taken consistently, create unstoppable momentum.
Turning Obstacles Into Opportunities
One of the biggest mistakes people make is seeing challenges as roadblocks instead of opportunities. Your schedule fell apart? Great—use the time to meet with your team, reflect on your strategy, or clean up that mess of a desk.
Someone quit your practice? Perfect—it’s time to refine your hiring process and build a stronger team.
Life happens. People get sick. Problems arise. But the ones who win are the ones who adapt, pivot, and keep moving forward.
Move the Needle Every Day
At the end of the day, this isn’t about perfection. It’s about consistency. Some days, you’ll make massive strides. Other days, all you can do is take one step. But as long as you’re moving, you’re winning.
